I am a jew from Egypt were I was born in Cairo in 1939. My parents were born
there, as well as my grand-parents. I left the country being 15 years old in
1957, following the Suez Canal war and the anglo-french-israeli invasion of
Egypt. I still have very fresh memories of Egypt although 44 years have
elapsed. I was back for a weeks visit in Dec. 1990 an the impact was as strong
as my memories.

I was born in 1946 in Alexandria, went to the Lycee de L'Union Juive pour
l'Enseignement until 1957, Notre Dame de Sion until 1959 and Lycee Francais
("Al Horreya") until 1961. I have lost total contact with my friends from the

We intend to do an article on the death of Chehata Haroun, and found your site
during our research. Please permit us to pass our condolences to your
community. We also noted with interest the book, "A Jewish Archive from Old
Cairo," and intend to highlight that in our books section. Please allow me to

I went to South Philadelphia High School with a very dear friend named Isaac
Sonsino. He graduated in 1968. As I recall, Isaac emigrated to the U.S. with

I am from Alexandria and I know how the jewish community was vibrant oneday.
Despite the current hatred in the middle east, I wish the jews will return

I,m very sorry about the tragic death of Mr. Safra, because I think he was a
man of great intelligence, character and kindness. I,ve read lately somethings
about his life and I think he deserves a lot of credit for all his hard work.
Knowing he was a man of such noble feelings, I wonder if his foundations can
help a foundation that has been created in Cartagena, Colombia, destined to
help teenage mothers from ages 11 to 19 and babies, in the Maternal Clinic
"Rafael calvo". We are a group of young women in our early thirties who are
helping the creator of the foundation, Catalina Escobar de Gómez, a mother who
lost her 1 year old son after he fell tragically from the balcony of her
apartment. In his memory, Catalina created the foundation. We are only
starting and although she has started speaking with the American embassy in
Colombia and the Japanese Embassy, we need all the help we can get in order to
help these poor mother and babies. If you can help us in anyway, sending us
antibiotics for the babies who are born infected with

As the editor the Sephardi bulletin in London I was very interested in your
site. In particulkar your articles on the persecuted Jews of arab countries
are vitally important. We must do everything we can to make people aware that
there are two sides to the refugee problem in the Middle East. The voices of
