Born in Cairo 1937. Went to American College for Girls. We left January 1937.
As I was reading all those familiar names (from hearing my parents repeating
them)images from 45 years ago flashed in front of my eyes! My mother's family
was Nathan and my father was Dayan. We lived in Ghamra. If anybody recognizes
those names or me, do not hestitate to contact me.

I was born in Cairo (Egypt) and upon graduation from High School, I was
admitted at the University of California (Berkeley) and left for the U.S. on
April 6, 1946. I am a 1947 Makhal veteran of the Hagannah/Israel Defense
Forces. My father was President of the Ashkenazi Commuinity of Cairo in 1944
and 1945 - when he passed away of a massive stroke. I attended the Lycee
Francais du Caire up to 1942 and then transferred to the Lincoln High School
of the American University at Cairo.

I am searching for information on the "Sorel" name. My father was born in
1936, Paris, France, to Robert L. and Theresa (Flagatier') Sorel. At 17, he
left France to come to USA and did not return, he lost contact with parents
(who divorced), I don't know much about them, I do know that my grandmother
had served in the French Army at one time. He was an only child. If anyone
could help, I have tried searching the Viola' site, but unfortunately, I
cannot speak or read French. I also do not even know where to begin. Thank you
for your assistance.

relatives who went to New York around 1956. Presumably and hopefully the're
still there. I'm looking for a cousin called Ginette Levy (that's her maiden
name) and her brother, Jacky Levy. Their mother is (or was) Esther Semopoulos

It is a great pleasure to see this site -- without the efforts of those who
conceived and maintain this site, no doubt our history woould be lost from our
extinct --or atleast dispersed -- community of Cairo Jews. I was born in Daher
in 1941, my father was a civil servant in the Ministry of Education. I went to
Medical School at Kasr El Eini and after a very short public service in the
villiage of Tafnis (upper Egypt), I completed my public service as phician to
the Jewish Community back home in Cairo -- until I was picked up at the start
of the Six Day War and placed in Abu Zabel prison, with my brother Moses (now
a corporate CEO in Boston Accoustic in Masschusetts), for 3 years until we
were sent as "stateless persons" to Paris and latter arrived in the US, joined
by our parents and 2 sisters. I am now a cardiologist in the Boston area. It
is great fun to meet other Egyptian Jews from Cairo who share memories and
experiences similar to mine.
