AMBASSADOR NABIL FAHMY
EMBASSY OF EGYPT
3521 INTERNATIONAL COURT
WASHINGTON D.C.,  20008
USA

FAX 202-244-5131

Mr. Ambassador:

In the past few days Israel has been the victim of repeated murderous
terrorist attack at the hand of Palestinian Arab suicide bombers.  Dozens
of Israelis have died and hundreds have been wounded, some
critically.  Leaders all over the world have expressed shock and revulsion
at such cowardly attacks, aimed specifically at defenseless civilians, and
urged the Palestinian leadership to immediately redouble its efforts to
stop terrorism and bring those responsible to justice.

By contrast, little was heard from Egypt .  President Mubarak issued a
late, terse, perfunctory statement condemning "all acts of violence".  The
Arabic daily Al Ahram merely reported the attacks with a short byline.

We, Jews who used to live in Egypt, wish to express our outrage at Egypt's
standoffish, business-as-usual attitude, and its policy of fanning the
fires of hatred in its antisemitic and anti-Israel press.  Truth be told,
we must add that we are not surprised.  We can only hope that Egypt will
one day see that its own self-interest does not lie in allying itself with
the murderers.

Sincerely,

HSJE Committee and the Regional Officers
